I'm a Registered Psychologist and have a PhD in Psychopharmacology in the field of addiction, and I have a long-standing interest in the field of drug and alcohol issues and associated treatments. I provide psychological therapy for adults with alcohol or substance use disorders, excluding stimulant use disorders (methamphetamine and cocaine) as the primary drug of concern.
I intend to provide a warm, compassionate, non-judgmental, safe space for people to explore their alcohol and drug use in the context of the other parts of their lives, and to use my specialist knowledge, experience and skill set to help people to make meaningful change in their alcohol or drug use and improve their overall physical, mental, personal and emotional well-being. Support can also include linking you to other services if needed (for example, inpatient or assisted home detoxification, rehabilitation options, Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Dependence (MATOD) or benzodiazepine stabilisation and tapering) including communicating with your GP if required.
I utilise evidence-based approaches to treatment including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing and aspects of schema therapy.
